This retreat, held at Hawkwood in cradle of the UK’s Cotswolds, is about weaving ourselves back into nature - through the creative process, awareness, deep listening, and ecological intelligence.
Artist Jo Smith guides us in creating our own Wild Scribe journals drawing colour and natural dyes from earth materials - a slow, tactile first act of attention. Mary Reynolds Thompson then leads us into the heart of wild language, freeing our untamed voice through reverent attention to hawks, forests, childhood sanctuaries and sacred animals, as our voice entwines with the voice of the earth.
Together, we will practice:
Creating our own Wild Soul Journals drawing colour and natural dyes from earth’s materials
Free writing, metaphor, dialogue, and perspective shifts that expand creative range
Character sketches of plants and animals that deepen intimacy with local beings
Seasonal and place-based exercises that cultivate ecological awareness and "soul of place"
Spirit animal, ritual, and mythic approaches presented through reflective writing practice
Tools useful to writers, forest bathing guides, eco-therapists, and journal facilitators
By the end of the retreat you will not just write about the wild - you will speak its language.
