What Wildness Means To Don and Mary

In this short video photographer Don Moseman and writer Mary Reynolds Thompson share how their love of wildness has helped them to stay sober, and in Don’s case, stay out of prison too. They know that connection to nature is key to healing from addiction, bringing them to a place of aliveness and joy.

Jane Hirshfield, prize winning poet and essayist

"This is a book of astonishment, reverence, and freedom. Familiar and less familiar beings and places are alike made bright here, burnished by seeing made vision, a seeing made also more precise by being shared. These pages enact an invitation that leads inward and also outward. I looked. I read. I lingered ... then reached for my hiking boots, to go out at once and see more deeply and freely for myself."

Jan Phillips, author of God is at Eye Level: Photography as a Healing Art

"At a time when the urgency is upon us to befriend the earth, this book offers a pathway into her beauty."

Notes from the author

Don Moseman and I cross paths many times on the trails of Marin County, California, where we both live.

We commune with nature in different ways—he with his camera, and I, my journal—but our roots reach into the same earth. We are both working to preserve wildness, wherever it resides––within and without.

From that shared passion, Embrace Your Inner Wild was born.
